Last night Global Cool attended a star-studded pre-Oscar bash in Los Angeles. The event, the 3rd Annual Global Green Pre-Oscar Party, attracted some of Hollywood’s biggest green-thinking stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Penelope Cruz, Orlando Bloom and multi-million selling singer James Blunt.

Many guests attending the party at the Avalon Club arrived by environmentally friendly vehicles, leading the charge for Sunday’s ceremony with Forest Whitaker, Nicole Kidman, and Kirsten Dunst all expected to arrive at the Oscars in eco-rides.

Speaking at the party, Global Cool supporter Orlando Bloom revealed his green credentials, claiming his new London home is going to incorporate solar panels and energy efficient lighting: “It’s as green as I can make it,” said the Pirates of the Caribbean star.

The actor went on to suggest that he was pleased that his high-profile status enabled him to get the message of global warming across: “I got a really sweet birthday message from a bunch of girls who said, ‘I’m unplugging my mobile phone charger and using energy-efficient light bulbs, and I’m really into the environment,’ ” said Bloom before adding that he personally responded with a thank you note, which by his own admission he never usually does.

Fellow Brit James Blunt also took the opportunity to rally support for the issue, urging fans: “It’s important for all of us, at whatever level, be it individuals, or politicians.” Rumours that the former army officer sang this statement in a falsetto voice remained unconfirmed at time of going to press.
